The constant quest for more overtaking in F1 has taken
on a whole new level with impossibly ugly cars for the 2010 season. From
our point of view, this year was the last straw, when the goal of
designing a car to get around a track the fastest takes a back set to
the attempt to increase overtaking, we loose all interest.

I mean, what is the big mystery? It is incredibly
obvious what is needed to increase overtaking in F1. The rule makers
simply have to look at which tracks/race championships have the closet
racing and draw their conclusions from that.
The current method in F1 is akin to reinventing the
wheel, like there is black magic involved, I mean it's absurd the length
the F1 rule makers have gone to, to make something so simple, so
complicated.

Okay, so what championships have the closest racing?
Well most motorcyling championships, why? Conservation of tyre life is a
big part of it, the riders cant go flat out if they want to be there at
the end so they tend to all lap at the same speed until the very end.
Also the fact there is little blocking in motorcycle racing also helps.
But motorcycling doesn't have the answer.
NASCAR has impossibly close finishes especially on the
super speedways like Talledega and Daytona with endless changes of
leader.
Citroen 2 CV racing has extremely close finishes,
again with endless changes of leader
Formula 1 also has close races, where? Montreal,
Monza, the Old Hockenheim usually produced close finishes in F1 terms.
Also what needs to be looked at is where overtaking
takes place. Its obvious overtaking takes place on the straights, yet
the current rules are looking to increase front end downforce. How the
hell does that improve the chances of overtaking on the straight?
So let's put together all these facts, overtaking
takes place in a straight line and the closest racing takes place on
tracks where slipstreaming is key.
So what needs to be done to increase overtaking in F1?
Its very simple, vastly multiply the effect of the tow in the slipstream
of the car ahead. It's just that simple.
Imagine it for a moment, the closeness of the racing
can be adjusted on a race by race basis simply by adjusting the power of
the tow to the circuit the cars are on.
How can this tow effect by installed/incorporated onto
an F1 car. Again the answer is incredibly straight forward. Mount a
board at the back of the car, say 2meters by 1metre with the surface of
the board facing the direction of travel. The size of this board can be
adjusted from track to track. Slower tracks will require a bigger board,
faster tracks a smaller board. Its the most simple solution in the World
and the effect would be dramatic
