Description, regulations and registration for the Golf GTI formulae.
Golf GTI
Vehicle Type
The regulations are fairly straightforward and limit the amount of
permitted modifications and, therefore, the cost of preparing a car.
Basic MSA Safety features – rollcage, extinguisher, racing seat, safety
harness – are mandatory.
Engine
Engines are standard with no modifications except for the fitment of a
‘control’ camshaft from Newman Cams. Inlet manifold and exhaust manifold
to remain standard; filtration and remainder of exhaust ‘free’. Standard
ECU may be re-mapped. Sump may be baffled but dry sump is not permitted.
Suspension
Suspension springs may be lowered and stiffened; dampers may be uprated;
bushes can be replaced; standard anti-roll bars to be retained.
Brakes
Brakes standard or standard pattern with ‘free’ pads, removal of
back-plates and replacement of brake hoses. No ABS, even if standard
fitment.
Transmission
Standard gearbox and final drive to be retained; no limited slip or
similar differential whether mechanical or electronic.
Wheels
Wheels 14” or 15” diameter, maximum 7” width; steel or aluminium alloy
only (no magnesium).
Tyres
Tyres are Toyo R888 in 185/60/14 or 195/50/15.
VAG
Trophy
The team behind the Golf Race Championship are launching a new race
series in 2009 for Volkswagen Audi Group (VAG) cars named the ‘VAG
Trophy’. This will be run through the 750 Motor Club.
REGISTRATION for the 2009 season will be FREE, you will only be required to join the 750 Motor Club!!!
Overview - The series is intended to provide a format for ANY 2 wheel drive model from the VAG portfolio manufactured before 2002. This includes Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Skoda.
VW Cup
Launched in 2000, the Volkswagen Racing Cup is widely regarded as the
most exciting saloon car championship in the UK and for 2009 it remains
the sole saloon support race in the prestigious British Formula
3/British GT Championship package.
Open to any model of racing Volkswagen, the Cup has attracted drivers of
the Beetle RSi, Corrado, Vento & Golf VR6, Golf GTI of every generation,
Polo, Lupo and Bora models. For a car to be allowed to race in the
Championship, it will need to be issued with a Volkswagen Racing
logbook. To be eligible for this, it must either be a car that has
competed in the championship in the past two years, or if it is new to
the championship, it must be less than 10 years old.
