Why are the stats unique?

StrikeEngine FPL player stats have context. We combine basic stats that are already out there to give them more meaning and insight. A player’s points might mean nothing if we don’t know the minutes played. Sure we could do the analysis manually on excel for each player or we can use StrikeEngine FPL Stats where the work is done already.

Manually

If you want to do your own manual analysis of FPL stats on excel, check this guide.

Hidden Stats Exposed – StrikeEngine FPL

Some examples how the standard stats can hide key data and even mislead us.

MPG (Minutes Points Game) – Explosive Players Everyone Sleeps On

A midfielder has half the points of the top player, but he has played a third of the minutes. This guy is going to show up precisely nowhere, but he might be the best midfielder in the game. Nowhere except on StrikeEngine FPL. Sure, there is a chance this guy is not getting full games, so we balance that out by combining this player stat with “Points per Game”. Combining with Points per Game may bury some explosivity, but it also adds in the importance of playing 90 minutes. This stat combines explosivity with consistency. For me, this number is probably the most important stat in FPL.

Explosivity with Value MPGV

Same as MPG but we add value into the equation. It’s all very well choosing the best MPG players but there comes a time when the budget runs out. MPGV lets you see which are the best and worse value options, so you get the highest MPG, budget permitting, over 11 or 15 players.

Fixture Difficulty (Next 5 Games)

We don’t only include unique stats, we also include the fundamentals. Minutes played is included, the points they have until now and their position and upcoming fixture difficulty for the next 5 games.

Fixture Past Difficulty

This season, around 9 games in, Wolves league position looked shocking, genuine relegation material. But what no stat told us was that Wolves had by far the hardest start to the season of any other team. Not a little bit harder but by far the hardest. And no stat you read on Wolves player could tell you this. StrikeEngine FPL includes fixture past difficulty to give you some extra context of the numbers you are seeing.

Example

When I saw that Wolves season start stat I went big on Wolves players, Cunha and Strand Larson when the fixtures got better. That bet paid off big time.

Bonus Points Per Minute

Not a primary stat this one. But what it does do is gives us a variable to help us choose between two players who have similar MPG and/or MPGV. Players with bonus points are generally more reliable than one game wonders. A player that gets a 12-point haul in one game still only gets three points. To rack up bonus points a player needs to play well every week. A player that is getting bonus points was one of the top three players on the field for the match. This means something.
