GCN are doing a daily show of the Tour De France highlights 2022.
The show is okay. For sure we would like it to be longer, each day’s highlights is only around 6 minutes long and that includes about one minute of intro and about a minute of outro which has the interviews from the day’s key players. Basically we are looking at around 4 minutes of racing highlights only, which isn’t really enough but it’s better than nothing!
If you have never heard of GCN, it’s short for Global Cycling Network. It’s a channel dedicated to road biking with everything from lifestyle pieces to experiments to commentary to highlight packages from the world’s major bike tours.
At the time of writing (morning of the 13th of July) we are about to start the first serious mountain stage in the alps with the favourite for winning the tour this year, Pogacar, already having the Yellow Jersey. Welshman Geraint Thomas is in fourth position 1 min 17 seconds off the lead. I’m no pro when it comes to tour history but I think for Geraint to be so far up the order before the mountain stages begins is a good sign but Pogacar is going to be very difficult to beat. As always with the tour De France, the moutains are going to decide the winner and anything can happen, to anyone, on any day.
Alpe d’Huez
Alp d’Huez is coming on Thursday and Geraint does not have a bad record there, I believe winning that stage the year he went on to win the tour itself. That was a few years ago but we have hope. If it sounds like I’m biased towards Geraint, it’s because I am 🙂
