Thank you for your patience while the satellite images of the tracks load.

We have compiled a list of the most famous racetracks in the UK. The race tracks listed have events going on throughout the year whether it be track days, testing, race meetings for touring cars, single seaters, motorbike, driving experiences and much more. Race Tracks UK – UK Circuits

Anglesey

race-tracks-angelseyAnglesey is probably the most modern race track in the UK. It has recently undergone a massive renovation which has left little or no trace of the original old track. Although the track is quite isolated geographically is does have excellent road links with the A5 running next to the track which connects to Merseyside through the A55.

Anglesey Circuit is the choice of 5th gear for it’s car and track tests. The track has a good variety of corners from slow speed and high speed as well as some elevation change. As the track is extremely exposed tot he elements there is no tree coverage which means it can get quite windy

Brands Hatch

race-tracks-brands_hatch

One of the most famous race tracks in the UK and arguably one of the best drivers circuits in the UK with plenty of elevation changes and good tree coverage which gives the driver and elevated sense of speed as well as given spectators a greater appreciation of the speed of the cars

Brooklands

race-tracks-brooklandsThe first time we saw a satellite image of Brooklands was when we were putting this page together and to be honest it was a bit of a shock. We knew that part of the track was longer in existence but we always assumed it had fall into disrepair and had been demolished or something similar. We were living in hope that one day it might be rebuilt!

It turns out that not only is part of the track no longer in existence it has been built on, a corner of the track is now an industrial estate with roads and houses built on other parts! Talk about selling your soul to the devil! One, if not the only  historic banked ovals in the UK has been destroyed and the land is being used by the highest bidder. Very disappointing. On the flip side, we also did not realise how close the track is to London which could explain why the chance to break up the track was too much to resist.

Cadwell

race-tracks-cadwell_park

It has been said so often about Cadwell that it has become a cliché so we won’t repeat it here, sufficient to say it’s similar to a very long track in Germany.

Cadwell Park is not particularly long or wide but it is probably the most exciting track in the UK. Loads and loads of elevation changes, fast and slow corners means this track is never boring. Cadwell is no longer used by the BTCC which is a massive shame, it may be narrow but that doesn’t stop F1 going to Monaco!

Castle Combe

race-tracks-castle_combe

One of the many tracks in the UK based around and old World War 2 airfield. The track is not particularly distinctive as it is quite flat and the corner are quite similar, i.e. long and fast. A few chicanes have been added which have mixed things up a bit. Track is also in the open which means it is hard to get a sense of speed there for the drivers and for the spectators. The BTCC doesn’t visit Castle Coombe which is a shame, it could be a bit of a slip streamer.

Croft

race-tracks-croft

Another circuit based around the outline of a WW2 airfield, some very fast corners and some very technical parts with a smattering of trees around the circuit. A nice track to drive and to spectate at.

Donnington

race-tracks-donnington_park_track_circuit

Donnington will for ever be remembered the The Lap by Senna, although Barichello’s first lap wasn’t bad either! The Craner Curves are probably the most famous corners in British motorsport.

It was on the cards that F1 would be returning to Donnington on a permanent basis but this fell through. The track needed to be lengthened considerably to hold F1, for what reason I don’t know, F1 seems to be scared of tracks with short lap times. All in all a nice track to drive and spectate at and with a few very good passing places

Goodwood

race-tracks-goodwood_track_circuit

Not really an active motorsport circuit, it is really a track for hire whether it be for corporate hospitability of for car related media events, Autocar for example did a hot hatch test there. An old school/historic track which means very fast open corners although a tight chicane has been added to the end of the lap

Knockhill

race-tracks-knockhill_track_circuit

A classic British circuit, based in Scotland the weather can be very changeable at Knockhill which makes driving and spectating there a challenge. A few quick corners, chicanes and a hairpin and plenty of elevation changes

Llandow

Not so well know a decade ago but slowly but surely becoming a key player in the UK motorsport community, the Lllandow circuit is based in South Wales near Llantwit Major. Llandow’s track layout contains a couple of high speed corners and a couple of slow speed chicanes and 2 long straights, you could say a mini version of the old Hockenheim circuit.

Again Llandow is another circuit built on an old WW2 airfield although unlike the big circuits like Thruxton, Llandow circuit intersects the main runways so it is smaller than Thruxton or Snetterton

Mallory Park

race-tracks-mallory_park_circuit_track

A relatively simple layout but with one of the great corners in UK motorsport. Mallory’s first corner is legendary for its speed and it’s duration. Also quite a picturesque location.

Oulton Park

race-tracks-oulton_park_circuit_trackBased near Crewe, Oulton has a lot of elevation changes and a massive range of circuit layouts to suit everything from trackdays to BSB to BTCC and F3

Pembrey

race-tracks-pembrey_circuit_trackAnother Welsh circuit based around an airfield but, like Llandow circuit, only a very small section of the airfield is used for the track. A good mixture of corners.

Rockingham

race-tracks-rockingham_circuit_track

Initially built with the plan to hold a European round of the Indy Car series. Indy Cars no longer visit Europe due to the massive conflict that kicked off between Indy Car and CART. Although the dispute is resolved the series is nowhere near back to what it was. Rockingham is a high speed tri oval and offered a stunning spectacle for single seaters

Silverstone

race-tracks-silverstone_track_circuit

The daddy of British racetracks but only because it hosts the British Grand Prix. Silverstone circuit is a very boring layout for spectators and drivers alike. Click here for out review of Silverstone Circuit

Snetterton

race-tracks-snetterton_track_circuit

Snetterton has the longest straight in the UK. Again, it is based on an old airfield. Two very fast corners to start the lap leading onto this straight which gives plenty of chances for a slipstream overtake. A chicane after the straight leading into two more fast corners with the lap finishing with a tight chicane. Very entertaining track for drivers and spectators.

Thruxton

race-tracks-thruxton_circuit_track

The fastest track in the UK which is why it is such an exciting place to race and watch. Many corners are taken on the limit, including the fastest corner in UK motorsport. A unique track, really old school, a track where health and safety haven’t had their say as yet. Balls out on the limit is the best way to describe a Thruxton lap
