BOV Manufacturers – BOV Kits

BOV manufacturers and BOV kits for most performance cars on the road today. BOVs, Dump Valves & Recirculating Valves relive the pressure in turbo intake systems when the throttle plate is closed when the throttle pedal is released. The air being pumped into the engine by the turbocharger needs to be able to go somewhere when the throttle is closed. This is where the BOV/Dump Valve/Recirculating Valve comes in, it relives the pressure from the system. This allows the turbo to keep spinning between gear changes and also reduces the damage inflicted on the turbo by the throttle plate being shut as the compressed air has somewhere to escape. With a recircualting valve the air can escape back into the intake after the MAF sensor and throttle plate. With a blow off valve (BOV) the air can escape directly to the atmosphere and make the infamous tisssshhh sound. The loundness of the sound depends on the boost pressure and the type of valve.

BOV Manufacturers – BOV Kits

Apexi
The Spec-II BOV is Apex’s latest version of our popular blow off valve. The Spec II’s unique design allows for quicker response without causing any excessive turbo lag between gears. Adjustable spring tension allows the release point to be matched to specific engine set-ups.

Bailey
Dump valves/BOVs are not a new idea and have been around since the early 1980’s. Their function is to release un-used boost pressure when lifting off the throttle of a turbocharged car.

After many years of exhaustive testing on road and high powered race cars, Bailey Motorsport introduced the piston design in 1997.

All 3 types of Bailey Motorsport piston dump valve/BOVs are precision CNC machined state of the art seal technology, and are designed to be re-buildable.

Blitz
1.Employs the Dual Drive System succeeded from the Super Sound Blow Off Valve DD.
2.Employs high quality aluminum die-cast for the body.
3.Ensured heat dissipation radiation by designing the body and funnel with ribs.
4.Creates a sharp sound by adopting the Venturi effect.
5.Defric Coated Piston made smooth movement even under dusty conditions.
36mm Diameter Big Valve with Special Rubber Seal ensured an outstanding sealing ability at high boost.
6.Recirculation Flanges are available at optional in 3 diameter sizes.

Forge Motorsport
Forge make a massive range of BOVs and special in VAG vehicles. From recirculating to blow off valves Forge has got you covered. Forge also manufacturer a “Splitter” BOV which is the best of both worlds, it recirculates and makes the normal BOV sound at the same time. The Splitter is guaranteed to work without causing a check engine light.

Greddy
GReddy Blow Off Valves (BOV) are easily adjustable to eliminate compressor surge and preventing premature boost leakage, while increasing boost response between shifts. Each valve is made of durable cast and billet aluminum frame and the valve to diaphragm ratio provides performance that cheap piston types cannot offer. The spring stiffness adjustment screw and the three different sizes give the GReddy user the option to match vehicles with mild upgrades to heavily tuned engines. There are many factors in matching a blow-off valve to an application, valve location, turbocharger size and pressure, but as a general rule of thumb, we recommend the Type RS for 100-400hp, Type R for 260-450hp and the Stiff Spring Type R for over 400hp applications. Also available in easy to install kit form for many turbocharged vehicles.

HKS
HKS compressor blow off valve (BOV) and bypass valves play a vital role in any turbo system because they not only improve the performance of your vehicle but they also increase the longevity of the turbocharger as well. The primary function of any blow-off or by-pass valve is to prevent compressor surge by relieving the compressed airflow that reverses direction as the throttle is closed. HKS blowoff (BOV) and bypass valves reroute the pressurized air, that is normally forced backwards into the turbo compressor, into the intake stream or by venting it to the atmosphere. Subsequently, engine performance is then increased from quicker turbo spool up, as the compressor speed is not reduced by the backward airflow. The longevity of the turbo is also increased, as its bearings will not suffer from the impact that is also produced by compressor surge. Though many vehicles incorporate factory by-pass valves, they are often undersized and quickly are beyond their capable operating range as airflow levels are increased. HKS offers four types of compressor blowoff and bypass valves: Standard, Racing, Super SQV, and the Super SQV Racing Single Valve.

Turbosmart
All Turbosmart blow off valves BOVs are made out of tough and durable billet aluminium and offer a host of features designed to give them superior flow and performance. Turbosmart’s Universal Fit BOVs have been developed to fit most popular makes and models and come supplied with pictorial fitting instructions on a CD.

TurboXS
With new and improved styling, the BOV-H-RFL remains true to it’s roots – it’s still really f’n loud! Like all our valves, the RFL relieves compressor pressure surge caused by changing gears or backing off the throttle and has been used on turbo charged engines running upto 35 psi boost. If you need to ask how loud it is, this valve is too loud for you! Blow Off Valve Type H-RFL comes standard with both a mild steel and aluminum weld-on adapters. Bolt-on kits are available for most OEM turbocharged applications.

BOV FAQ @ Alltrac

An article going into the working of a BOV in more detail

“Pressure release valve or more commonly known as a “Blow Off Valve”, releases turbo pressure when the throttle plate is closed. The turbo is still spinning and still creating pressure. The forced air will hit the throttle plate and return where it came from. When a BOV reads vacuum from the manifold, it either opens a valve, or softens the valve. Which lets the pressure escape from it’s opening. In order to work correctly the air must go back into the intake before your turbo because the Air Flow Meter has accounted for it. If not you will have a temporary rich condition which will upset your idle slightly. Proper tuning can get around this hassle. Most choose to vent to the air, as they love the sweet sound the air makes when it runs to the atmosphere. If the pressure release valve (as some call it) contains a horn or small holes/vents it will cause the air to make a louder/higher pitched sound depending on what is used. ” – read the full article here
