Ford Focus Broken Door Handle Symptoms

  • You pull on the outside door handle lever but nothing happens
  • You can open the door with the inside handle no problem
  • You can pull on the door handle a few times and it opens
  • You can pull on the door handle a few times rapidly in succession and the door opens
  • One day, no amount on tugging on the door handle does anything.

The Nightmare “Fixes”

Assuming nothing is obviously broken with the door handle ie nothing has snapped, nothing is loose, nothing is hanging off etc etc chances are you just need to adjust the existing door handle.

Where I started..

I found this workshop manual which completely glosses over the adjuster.

I watched some videos. I struggled with the top adjuster in the door that holds the end of the threaded bar. (I never did find out how to uses the threaded adjuster).

This video is a prime example of turning a simple situation into a total nightmare for no reason.

And then I found this video.

The simplicity of this fix is absolutely genius.

Its one of those moments when you say to yourself, I cannot believe I didn’t think of that.

The Genius

To fix the “broken” Ford Focus door handle you just need to bend the bar that connects the outside door handle to the lock.

In my case I just needed to straighten the bar slightly and bingo, the door handle now had enough travel to open the door like new.

Hopefully if you are struggling trying to fix your Ford Focus door handle, this guy’s video will help!!!!!
